Thank You Uncle Sam

by Chris Wiegman on February 22nd, 2009

So I keep reading articles about how the economic stimulus will affect people. For the most part I have to laugh because I’m too responsible to qualify for nearly anything that would go to an individual and I don’t own my own company so I won’t get anything that would go to businesses. Well, I did figure out one way, the new housing tax credit.

I first did my taxes about 3 weeks ago and for the first time ever I owed the federal government about $300. I was pissed and I didn’t want to spend the money right now so I decided I would wait until April to submit. I’m glad I did because they just changed the rules for first time home buyers giving us up to $8000 or 10% of the value of our homes back as a tax credit (not a deduction) and unlike the old program as long as we live there for 3 years we don’t need to repay it. WOO HOO! So I redid my taxes the other day and found out that instead of owing money were gonna get more back than we ever have. Thank you uncle Sam!!
