Portfolio
Below is a list of my current sites and projects. Internal sites and intranets may require a connection to the network of the company or organization for which they were made.
Public Websites
The SIUC Aviation page is built on Drupal and designed to be a complete front end to the SIUC Aviation programs' students, prospective students, and alumni. The current incarnation of the site was redesigned from the ground up in June 2010 to put forward the best content in a package that can be easily found and used by both users and search engines. This site includes numerous off-the-shelf and custom modules, a custom theme based on the Zen theming system, and a mobile version to help our users keep up on current events and news.
ChrisWiegman.com is my own homepage and serves as a showcase of my work and experience. It is build on Wordpress using numerous plugins to optimize speed and SEO performance. In addition, it serves as a sandbox to test custom plugins and other code.
SIUC Aviation Blogs and Sites is a Wordpress MU (now Wordpress 3.0 multi-site) system allowing for easy publication of information from various sources in the SIU CAviation community. For years we have required student groups, faculty, and others to create their own site complete with HTML/CSS and other aspects that aren’t high on the interest levels of many of the users. As a result pages were often incomplete and obsolete with some not being updated for years due to lack of knowledge. To correct this problem as well as allow for more faculty and groups to move online we have migrated to a single Wordpress system allowing all members of the SIUC Aviation community a complete and easy to use system to foster communication between faculty, staff, students, alumni, and more.
Similar to the Aviation Blogs and Sites system, the SIUC Architecture Sites and Blogs system is built on Wordpress 3 multi-site and allows for the easy update and maintenance of various websites for the SIUC Architecture community.
Built within the SIUC Aviation Wordpress framework, the SIUC Aviation/Carbondale Local Weather site relies primarily on a custom PHP plugin to collect and display various aviation weather products for our local pilots. Each product and station is collected from a separate source and is put together on a regular interval to give our students and instructors a quick glance of the weather at home for flight planning and other purposes.
DotDawg is a registered student organization at SIUC I founded as an avenue for students from different web-related disciplines to come together and exchange ideas and experiences while building practical experience with various web technologies. The site is build in Wordpress using the Wordpress Arras Theme for a modular, magazine style homepage.
A blog to showcase the progress of the construction of the Transportation Education Center at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. This site is created in Wordpress using the Artisteer theme generator for easy updates and maintenance.
Cape Air Charter needed a website that they could easily maintain without the assistance of a dedicated employee or knowledge of HTML or other code. The site is build on my own Bridge CMS system and makes use of numerous SEO techniques and interface features to bring it to the forefront of the air charter industry in the midwest.
Social Media
The DotDawg Facebook page allows for easy posting and discussion of items of interest to the DotDawg student organization.
The Facebook page for SIUC aviation is used primarily as a way to share photos and events with SIUC Aviation alumni.
A collection of photos from various events on the SIUC Aviation Flickr site. Allows for alumni and others to access event photos from any platform.
The main twitter feed for SIUC Aviation with posts to events, news, and other info pertinent to the SIUC Aviation community.
The SIUC Aviation Weather Call Twitter page is a collection of the SIUC Aviation weather call which is made at least twice daily. It allows students and faculty to help plan their flight lessons and can update them of changing conditions when at airports other than their home airport. The information from the feed is gathered through a custom Wordpress plugin on the SIUC Aviation local weather site.
The SIUC Aviation YouTube channel is a collection of recruitment videos to help the Aviation programs attract new students. Videos from the channel can also be displayed at random on the SIUC Aviation homepage through the use of a custom Drupal module.
Internal Websites/Intranets
Bridge is the ultimate in modular content management systems. Written in PHP with a MySQL backend it is a solid solution for those who want the functionality of a modern CMS without the constraints of the more popular CMS systems on the market. Current features include SMS and RMS data publishing, full Access Control Lists for all data in the site, numerous safeguards to combat spam and other malicious activity and over a dozen content types editable from within or through the user front-end.
The sandbox is a laboratory in which I can try and learn new systems. It has been used for the buildout of numerous sites on systems including Drupal, Joomla, Wordpress, Moodle, DotCMS, and others.
The SIUC Aviation Department Wiki is built on MediaWiki and provides a comprehensive inter-office communication tool aiding everything from the presentation of course material to information technology and various human resources functions.
A customized phpMyAdmin installation for SIUC Aviation allowing for instant maintenance and development on various departmental databases.
SIUC Aviation Webservices Statistics is a custom stats site for the SIUC Aviation community making use of the latest website statistical software including AWStats and a number of other products to provide an instant snapshot of the reach and effectiveness of SIUC Aviation's internet marketing efforts.
