Drupal vs Joomla via Another Metric

Every time I bring up the Drupal/Joomla argument I can guess at what any Joomla user’s argument will be: “Joomla is more popular in Google Trends.” While this is undeniably true it is neither an indication of the quality or capability or either system nor is it the only metric by which to measure their popularities. Take a look at the Compete.com graph below for an example:

While this is just one of many metrics that doesn’t prove anything about the quality of the software, perhaps I should site it more often…

There are two excellent plugins which can do the actual work for you, W3 Total Cache and WP Minify both of which will take the Javascript files and style sheets in your theme and plugin output and combine them into a single javascript file and a single stylesheet. In the case of a complex theme or a site with many plugins this technique alone can easily save 10 or more http requests and provide a noticeable decrease in load times.

A Worthy Digsby Alternative for Mac

A Worthy Digsby Alternative For the MacBack when I was still a Windows user I relied heavily on Digsby as both an instant messaging client and as a good way to check my email. In fact, I relied on it so much myself that when I needed a good email checker for my company after we switched to Google Apps we picked Digsby as our goto application. However, now that I’ve completely given up all Windows computers I can no longer use Digsby as my go-to client.

Now according to Digsby’s website there are technically clients in the works for both Mac and Linux, however after using the product for at least the last 2 and a half years I can tell you an actual release seems about as likely as a Cubs world series championship (I’m from the Northwest side of Chicago and I die-hard Cubs fan, but also a realist).
